Up until a few days ago I was feeling fairly good about my progress even knowing that there was still some heavy lifting to do coming up. I had spent a good amount of time editing the A Roll footage for my mini documentary, although I knew I still had a lot to do. I was starting to see it come together in my mind which gave me ideas about what to cut. I had my calendar and schedule worked out so that I would have enough time to finish by the 22nd. But as we all know, life doesn’t always go as planned. For several days, I had been experiencing some light-headedness and shortness of breath. Following the July 4th weekend, I made an appointment with my doctor to see what was going on. Based on some tests, she called me on the afternoon prior to our class time and urged me to go to the emergency room for further tests. All the while, I kept thinking about all the work I had to do and that I didn’t want to miss class, but I knew I better follow my doctor’s instructions. Because I didn’t feel particularly ill, I kept thinking they are going to say you’re fine and this will be a big waste of time. I was very fortunate that my doctor sent me there because they found large clots in both of my lungs. Nothing like a life threatening diagnosis to put things in perspective. So I let myself let go of everything to focus on getting better and coming home. I am very grateful that my condition was treatable and that I’m going to keep getting better over the next few weeks.
